I do find it intensely annoying when people deny having said something, even though it’s well known that they did.  Sometimes a liar and cheat (such as Hazel Blears) can brazen it out because there is no proof of what was actually said.  On this occasion (after deriding the policies of the former New Labour government) there was proof.

What makes this even more pathetic than her usual blunders is that she was recorded speaking IN PUBLIC.  I think it’s fair to assume that she will not be in the upcoming shadow cabinet of new Labour party leader Ed Liliband (aka Forrest Gump).

This pathetic display contrasts sharply with that of a British politician in the early 1970s, who successfully avoided prosecution for a driving offence, by claming that it was mistaken identify.  He had (allegedly) been spotted driving his car in a state of drunkenness by a policeman on the beat in Westminster.  The officer (allegedly) saw the driver clearly, and recognised the individual because of the prominent handle bar moustache.  In court the MP claimed that it was in fact his secretary that was driving.  His secretary was female, and didn’t have even a small moustache.
