Pearls Of Wisdom

The other night I watched the ‘late night’ review of the next morning’s newspapers on Sky News.  As this was courtesy of Baroness Billingham  and David Davies I wasn’t paying a great deal of attention at first.  Then BB started bemoaning some celebrity footballer’s behaviour.  At the end of this diatribe she criticized him for turning up for work with a hangover, and not being a good role model.  Not too surprising really, given that ‘politicians’ love to clamber onto the moral high ground at every opportunity.  It makes them feel superior.

What made her comments more irritating than usual was that she WAS DRUNK!!!  Not that this should be a great surprise.  Hypocrisy is a common trait for politicians, but not in general displayed in such a blatant way as this.

Baroness Billingham often appears on the Sky News press review, to the detriment of the British viewing public.  Her Wikipedia entry contains this:

“Subsistence Allowances are designed to help peers who live in the country to attend late-night votes and debates in Parliament, Billingham, who has a flat in Hampstead and a country house in Suffolk claimed £26,983 in 2006-07 in overnight allowances, prompting calls for an inquiry.”

I would say an inquiry is merited.
