I have previously mentioned that when I (somewhat warily) first started shaving my head back in the 1970s I found Grace Jones to be an inspiration.  Of curse I was aware of Telly Savalas and Yul Brynner, but they were much older than me, and certainly more ‘straight’.  Anyway, amongst the others I found inspiration from was the model with the shaved head that appeared on the covers of the early Ohio Players albums.

I have been trying (so far without success) to find out the name of this model.  The band were not widely known in the UK at that time, but the album covers were quite prominent in the record stores, which was not surprising given he S and M imagery.  It’s just occurred to me that it would have been good if she had done a photo shoot with Isaac Hayes, who appeared in chains on one of his album covers.  But I digress.

So I have been trying to find out the name of the model, who apparently continued to shave her head for years after the Ohio Players moved record labels, and adopted a different approach to their album covers.  However although I have fund plenty of references on the internet, she is always referred to as the ‘bald woman’, ‘bald lady’, bald model etc etc, but with no name!  It’s really annoying, especially when one considers that these days the most dull and totally uninspiring non-entity can be considered a ‘celebrity’.

I managed eventually to find out that the name of the model was Pat Evans, and that she started shaving her head as far back as 1966. Apparently the Ohio Players album covers were photographed by Joel Brodsky.
