Last night we had the pleasure of seeing Ute Lemper in concert at the Barbican. I’ve wanted to see Ute Lemper live for some time, but this was the first opportunity I’ve had. It was yet another brilliant performance at this venue.

I am not so familiar with Ute Lemper’s work as I have been with most of the artists we’ve seen recently, but I was familiar with many of the songs. Ute performed songs made famous by Edit Piaf and Marlene Dietrich, and some songs from “The Threepenny Opera”, and not surprisingly from “Chicago”. She also did “In the Port of Amsterdam”, which is one of my favourite songs of all time. Absolutely wonderful – can’t wait for the next time.

Today I booked tickets for the concert at the Barbican in October in honour of Jacques Brel, on the basis that he would have been 80 this year (if he’d lived this long). This is going to be quite an evening, and features Marc Almond & Diamanda Galás amongst others already listed, and somewhat cryptically “more”. No no, I will not start a rumour, but if only…
