Some of the MPs below were the most vociferous in their condemnation of the excessive bonus culture and so called ‘rewards for failure’ in the banking sector. At the same time these hypocrites were lining their own pockets with our money.

To excuse these practices on the basis that the claims were ‘within the rules’ is ludicrous, and blatantly dishonest. They were all abusing the system and they have been caught out. I await further revelations of parliamentary greed with interest.

It's pretty sad that, while I should outraged at the fact that the very people who objected the loudest were guilty of overspending themselves, I am completely unsurprised.

What is surprising really is the scale of the abuse. If there were just a few ‘rotten apples’ they would no doubt have been dealt with, but there are just so many! Also, not only have they been claiming expenses unjustifiably, but they have been using public money to speculate on the property market.

On many levels this is a huge scandal, but what is most irksome is that all this is going on when we are at the beginning of a recession, which will be very long and very hard for the British people. The person that is now leading the country is also the very person who did more than anyone else to put this country in this mess in the first place! So today he apologises on behalf of all politicians, but does he offer to pay back the money he stole from us? Well the answer is not ‘Yes’.
