I have booked tickets for the Pink Martini gig at the Barbican on Sunday night. I’m sure that this is going to be an excellent gig, but what to do afterwards? One thing we won’t be doing is having a meal in a restaurant! It is frustrating the way that London seems to close down so early on Sunday’s, which I guess will be something of a surprise to our visitors from across the globe. Even the excellent Oxo Tower restaurant will not accept any bookings after 10pm on Sunday, which means we would have to leave early to guarantee having something to eat. So we’ve decided to forget it. A pity, because it would have been a wonderful end to the evening.

I realize that the early closing (or indeed not opening at all) is not unique to London, but this is supposed to be a ‘world city’. Maybe when the Olympics are on restaurants will have to stay open for an extra couple of hours to meet the expectations of the tourists. Something to look forward to I guess.

I feel tempted to start a rant about public transport, but I’d better not because I could go on and on.

It was a very nice evening. Pink Martini are an extremely good live act. In fact I’d say that last night was one of the best performances I’ve seen, and I found it very uplifting. They will be coming back in July, and we will definitely be there.
