After a couple of false starts, my father has had his MRI scan, PET scan and various other tests.  Today was his appointment with his consultant, and sister no2 and my brother went along with mum and dad.

Fortunately it is good news and the prognosis is optimistic.  Although the cancer has spread to his lymph glands it is treatable with chemotherapy, for which the curse of treatment will last about 4-6 months.  After that his health will be assessed, and he may need radiotherapy.

Apparently it will not completely get rid of the cancer, but will put it in remission for several years.  I’ve just done a search and there’s a lot of websites that have information on ‘small cell cancer’.  I’ll try and read up on this before we go up to visit mum and dad, because even though it’s good news I’m sure they are both still very worried.
